Fighting Blindness asked us to design and produce their annual medical conference, Retina 2020. This event hosted high calibre speakers in the field of retinal research from all over the world. With Covid restrictions in place at the time, this had to be a virtual event.
The challenge was to keep the event social and interactive, while giving graduate researchers the chance to share their work with established labs and experts from across the globe.
Firstly, using our unique Event X platform we built a custom virtual studio to display the event host, retinal experts and global researchers. Interactivity was facilitated by a comment box and a custom virtual poster gallery with a “Comment and Collaborate” feature, allowing all attendees to come together, comment on posters and forge future partnerships in the retinal research world. In tandem, we built a custom website that hosted the live stream and allowed attendee registration. Full production of the show was handled in house, covering speaker and sponsor management, show running order & scripting, interview pre-records, video editing, highlight reel and data analytics.
The success of the event was unprecedented by the client, predicting that between 100-120 people would attend the event, there were over 450 attendees that tuned-in on the day. The event was met with widespread acclaim from all attendees on the site and over social media, and went on to win the 'Educational Meeting of the Year - Webinar' at the Irish Healthcare Awards 2021.
